Description

This is my latest project, the fruit of two clear nights in a row over the last 3 months.

This is the VdB31 nebula, in LRGB.

"VdB 31 is a reflection nebula located around 470 light-years away in the constellation of Auriga, surrounding the magnitude 7 star HD 31293 (or AB Aurigae).
It is also located in the Taurus complex of molecular clouds.

Near VdB 31, the obscure Barnard nebulae 26, 27 and 28 mask the light from stars coming from the regions behind the nebulous complex.

AB Aurigae is a well-known and intensely studied star because of its protoplanetary disc with a particularly complex structure, apparently organised in the shape of a spiral with two arms with radii of more than 230 and 330 AU (AU= Earth-Sun distance)."
